#TopTenTuesday: Ten Authors I AutoBuy

Thanks to the Broke and the Bookish for hosting.

First list that was really easy for me to put together. However, I fear that my choices are beginning to sound like a broken record. Have any of you noticed the same names tend to show up every week?

Rainbow Rowell has not written one thing that I have not fallen in love with nearly immediately. So yeah, anything and everything... I own all her books including the anthologies she has written for and will continue to buy her books unabashedly.

Garth Nix is most excellent and I have adored him for a very, very long time. He has written one of my favorite heroines - Sabriel! My daughter and son adore his books as well which makes him a fantastic addition to this list.

Jonathan Stroud snuck up on me. I had read the Bartimaeus trilogy but then he released an eerie middle grade series - Lockwood & Co. Such a very fun, spooky read but great mystery series with a supernatural edge to it.

Really, let us be honest, did anyone think J. K. Rowling would not show up on this list? Isn't she on everyone's list?

Marissa Meyer was one of those author romances that began with a love of the first book and then all of a sudden there were short stories and two more novels in the series. Suddenly I had no time because I was reading all the words in her Lunar Chronicles series. The rest is history, they say!

Cynthia Voigt, always and forever, will remain on my auto buy list. My daughter and I adore everything... EVERYTHING she writes - from Homecoming to On Fortune's Wheel to her Mister Max series. She jumps from YA to middle grade to fantasy and realistic fiction with the ease of a master story-teller.

Leigh Bardugo cannot be ignored. She writes characters who are amazing and charismatic and unforgettable. Six of Crows is one of my most anticipated books of this year!

Ransom Riggs fits right into our favorites up to the fact that Tim Burton will be directing the adaptation of Peculiar Children. Have you seen the promo artwork for the film?

Neil Gaiman usually always is a good bet for me. Yeah... anyone and everyone who knows me saw his name coming. The Graveyard Book and American Gods remain in my top 20 books of all time.

V. E. Schwab is my newest obsession. She writes and writes and just freaking writes all the time. Look at her books. How does she ever have any time for anything?! She's in the middle of getting a degree and moving and dang the lady is impressive. So are her stories. You need to read them.

  1. I have got to check out V.E Schwab, I've seen her on a few lists now and I'm so intrigued! Great choices. My TTT!

    1. Oh you really should. Her books are so atmospheric in a film noir way. I am desperate to see them on the big screen!

  2. Rainbow Rowell is high on my list. Love her! I can see Marissa Meyers quickly being one too as I am loving the Lunar Chronicles. Great list!

    1. Marissa Meyer has an unique knack of packing in a ton of story, plot and character development without the reader knowing how much they've read. Her pacing and rhythm is genius.

Rainbow Rowell packs an emotional punch and I keep taking the hits because her words. Yeah... Happy Reading!

  3. So many awesome authors on here! Rainbow Rowell is on my list too, but so many of these were almost there - I had huge difficulty trying to get it down to ten because there are just so many awesome authors!

    1. Exactly! I could've easily probably had a 25 or 50 person list. I didn't even tackle children's book authors either. Woohoo for all the Rainbow Rowell love.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  4. This is a great list!! We share a few authors, which I am glad to see :) I haven't yet read Miss Peregrine's, but I have the book and I have been wanting to get to it for years! SO many authors, so little time. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Always with the time running away from us. Why does it constantly do that?

Peculiar Children is hit or miss for most people. I haven't really known anyone not to have a strong reaction to it. My daughter is so excited about Library of Souls, the third and last book in the series.

  5. <3 Sabriel too! The Abhorsen trilogy is one of my favourite trilogies ever (I know there's the new book, but I'm a little hesitant to check it out if only because the first three books were perfect as they stood). Great list!

    1. Clariel is worth reading! It's really amazing and since you've read the first three, you'll be able to understand it better. Actually there's quite a few Old Kingdom shorts in bound anthologies too... :)

      Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Great list!! I almost included J.K. Rowling, but that wouldn't be honest because I haven't been interested in any of her newer books. I haven't read a lot of these, but we have Marissa Meyer in common!

    Here are my Top Ten!

    1. Casual Vacancy was ripe with putrid characters who just could not get their acts together, but the trademark character development that I have come to love from J. K. Rowling was there. I have her two mysteries too although I haven't read them yet. However, I don't see myself not ever buying her work just because her narrative voice is one I adore so much.

Marissa Meyer is genius! Happy Reading!

  7. I felt that way too--that my list was not exactly new territory. LOL It's still fun though to see what everyone has on their list. I think our posts are only broken records to ourselves. :-)

I was so close to putting Neil Gaiman on my list. I have loved everything I've read by him so far. He's so awesome.

    1. Neil Gaiman is fantastic. So very old style literary and many times people who are used to the more frenetic short sentence pacing of modern fiction are not as enamored with his stuff. The only book of his I'm not especially fond of is StarDust and I fear that the movie ruined me for the book as I read it after I saw the movie. For shame!

      Happy Reading!

  9. Rainbow and Marissa didn't make my list - yet. I've only read one book a piece from them. But I have great plans for more. :) Just need to find the time! And I agree - my list this week feels like the same list I've done for who knows how long. Hoping to spice it up again next week!

    1. Woohoo... they are such great authors all around that I think you'll find them sneaking into your affections. :)

Yeah... I'm kind of feeling like I'm leaving out a whole bunch of authors who could use the promotion too, you know?

  10. I love your list of auto-buy authors. Good selection! I didn't put J.K. Rowling because I did not enjoy one of her adult books but I am a huge Harry Potter fan.

    1. Understandable about Rowling... but seriously, if she were to release anything Harry Potter related can you imagine the mad dash there will be? I mean she is writing the script for the three Fantastic Beasts so I'm betting that we'd auto buy her like crazy people.

  11. I certainly hope to LOVE Marissa Meyer's novels. Especially considering I own the first three books in her series. Also, I've heard Neil's books are really creative and unique. Fun list! Thanks so much for visiting Dreaming Under the Same Moon.

Check out my TTT and my current giveaway which ends tonight at midnight.

  14. I skipped JKR because there's no sign of her returning to MG and YA fiction. But I do have a slight obsession with Harry Potter. And I didn't have any of these others either, but there are several here that I've been meaning to read for a while now. Great list!

  16. Sadly, I haven't read anything by these authors except for Rainbow Rowell and I didn't fully enjoy Fangirl. I do have the Lunar Chronicles series which I need to get to and omg I NEED to buy the Peculiar Children series (the full title is too long haha) Thanks for reminding me I need to get this series.

  17. There are so many authors on your list that I love! If I had more money to spend I'd probably make them all auto-buys. Unfortunately, the wallet isn't a fan. Great list! And thanks for stopping by my blog earlier :)

    1. Yeah... my wallet isn't either which is why the reserve/request menu for my local library is in my bookmarks. This way I get the books I want, get to read them and hopefully share with others who might not have known about them.

      Happy Reading! :)
