'Waiting On' Wednesday #22: Half Lost by Sally Green

The final book in the Half Bad Trilogy by Sally Green is gorgeous. Of course, the cover comes in a lovely metallic shade with a silhouette tree on it. The previous two novels in the series, followed the same graphic design. As a collector, remaining true to the other covers makes me immensely happy. SHINY!

Also, the trilogy holds two Guinness World Records: The Most Translated Book by a Debut Author, Pre-publication — selling in a whopping 45 languages before it was released in the U.K. — and Most Translated Children’s Book By a Debut Author. Fox 2000 purchased the film rights before the first book, Half Bad, hit shelves and to show how serious they were about its development, Fox 2000 hired Karen Rosenfelt to produce. Rosenfelt comes from that other pretty well know YA-fantasy franchise — Twilight. Yeah… you know, it’s no big deal.

You can read the entire first chapter of Half Lost HERE.

DETAILS:
  • Title: Half Lost
  • Publisher: Viking Books for Young Readers
  • Publishing date: March 29, 2016
  • Author(s): Sally Green
  • Series: Half Bad Trilogy

SUMMARY:
The Alliance is losing. Their most critical weapon, seventeen-year-old witch Nathan Brynn, has killed fifty-two people, and yet he’s no closer to ending the tyrannical, abusive rule of the Council of White Witches in England. Nor is Nathan any closer to his personal goal: getting revenge on Annalise, the girl he once loved, before she committed an unthinkable crime. There is an amulet, protected by the extremely powerful witch Ledger, which could be the tool Nathan needs to save himself and the Alliance. But the amulet is not so easily acquired. And lately Nathan has started to suffer from visions: a vision of a golden moment when he dies, and of an endless line of Hunters, impossible to overcome. Gabriel, his closest companion, encourages Nathan to run away with him, to start a peaceful life together. But even Gabriel’s love may not be enough to save Nathan from this war, or from the person he has become.
Set in modern-day Europe, the final book in the Half Bad trilogy is more than a story about witches. It’s a heart-poundingly visceral look at survival and exploitation, the nature of good and evil, and the risks we take for love.

THERE'S MORE AWESOME:
Over on Goodreads, Green addressed fans who are worried about leaving the Half Bad world behind after this book and what plans she has next in publishing.
I’m currently editing HALF LOST. Then I’m hoping to write a short story related to the HALF BAD world, but will have to see how that goes. In September I’ll start on a completely new novel. I’ve got a few different ideas but haven’t decided which one to follow yet – I think it will depend on the mood I’m in. That book will probably be a stand alone, just because I want a break from trilogy/series writing.
As always thanks to Breaking the Spine for hosting.

    1. Half Wild is pretty good. I might even like it better than Half Bad. They do run into each other so this series is one that I definitely recommend reading in order and in close proximity to each other.

    1. Good luck! These books are pretty great but they aren't as straightforward fantasy as you'd think. There's some political maneuverings in them that overlap some of what is awful about today.
